The Business Challenge

Prior to the deployment of Accolade®, Devondale Murray Goulburn was experiencing pain as it looked to execute on its strategy of generating growth and value through innovation.

This was the result of several factors including:

  • A legacy Lotus Notes® system that required replacement and did not support the business’ innovation management requirements
  • Complexity around the number of innovation processes in use throughout the business (for example, there were 8 processes alone for product changes)
  • A lack of visibility of key metrics at both a project and portfolio level
  • A long tail of projects in the portfolio that were of questionable value or feasibility

Its is now estimated that 75% of fortune 500 companies in the US are using a gate based process for managing NPD. While Australia may lag the US in the adoption of best practice processes for effective innovation and product development management it is clear that having a Stage Gate ® process is no longer a differentiator but rather a “Must Have” tool.

How a Robust Stage-Gate Idea-to-Launch Process Really Works

If you are not satisfied with the way your idea-to-launch process works, then this 20 minute video is right for you. Cooper, the creator of the Stage-Gate system, explains how the system works – the basis for stage-gate, what the stages are, how the gates work, using the right go/kill criteria at gates, how stage-gate can be extended to other types of initiatives, successfully implementing Stage-Gate, the role of the process manager, and getting senior management on board. He also provides a glimpse into the future – a look beyond Stage-Gate at the new Triple A system. An entertaining and insightful 20 minutes, with lots of solid tips to getting it right.
